Section 106 Review/Compliance for construction of a new ADA Entry & Elevator and rehabilitation of the historic Bell Tower using Portage County FY2015 CDBG and State Capital Appropriations funds & National Register Boundary Increase.


Section 106 Compliance for construction of new ADA Entry and Elevator, rehabilitation of the historic Bell Tower, and roof replacement using Portage County CDBG and State Capital Appropriations funds for the 1914 Mantua Center School (NR# 13000682).  Naylor Wellman worked with Hummel Construction to review the Scope of Work and provide guidance to ensure the work met the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation while monitoring and reporting to ensure that proper documentation was submitted, reviewed, and approved by the SHPO in compliance with Section 106 requirements.

Mantua Center Historic District National Register Boundary Increase (#AD74001607), significant under Criterion C in the area of Architecture as a remarkably intact example of a 19th-century crossroads township center.  The Boundary Increase includes examples of Greek Revival, Classic I-House, and Neoclassical architecture.  In addition, it is significant under Criterion A in the areas of Settlement/Exploration and Community Planning & Development, reflecting the settlement of the Connecticut Western Reserve by the earliest Mantua Center pioneers.  The period of significance was expanded to begin in 1822 and end with the 1914 Mantua Center School (NR# 13000682).
