Design Guidelines & Historic Preservation Ordinance

Design Guidelines and Landmark Ordinance Update funded both in part by Certified Local Government Grants from the State of Ohio Historic Preservation Office.

Historic Preservation Design Guidelines for review of local landmark properties within the City of Cleveland Heights.  The Design Guidelines identify historic architectural building styles in Cleveland Heights and provide further understanding of the local Historic Preservation Ordinance including application of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. The project included collaboration with City Planning, the Landmark Commission, and ABR; public meetings provided community input and participation.  The design guidelines are available at https://www.clevelandheights.com/1435/Historic-Preservation-Design-Guidelines

Review and update of the Landmark Commission Ordinance for clarity and consistency with the Historic Preservation Design Guidelines.  The overall goal was to create a cohesive program to maintain the character-defining features of Landmark properties within the City of Cleveland Heights.  The update was accomplished in collaboration with City Planning, the Law Department, the Landmark Commission, and SHPO with public meetings and participation.
